If you’re planning to spend a few nights away this summer, but are “roughing it” in a tent rather than a posh hotel, here’s some tips from Campcraft Bolton on how to choose the right sleeping bag for you.
First of all you need to decide how you’ll be transporting the sleeping bag. If you’re planning on carrying it around you’ll need a light one, but a heavier one will be fine if it’s only going to be stored in the back of your car.
If you are buying for a child consider using an adult bag with a hair bobble around the bottom to shorten the length, but do remember to remove the draw cord for safety reasons.
Look at the comfort sleeping temperature and ignore the limit/extreme temp (you would be extremely cold). Sleeping bag temperature ratings are given under the assumption that you are using an insulating mat and wearing light clothing. If in doubt buy a slightly warmer sleeping bag as you can always unzip it.
Stuff your sleeping bag back into the stuff sac, don’t roll it, the clues in the title!
Finally enjoy your new sleeping bag!
Campcraft have some brilliant offers running on sleeping bags this summer.
Remember if you call into Campcraft, the staff there will be more than happy to advise you on which type of sleeping bag to use.
