Lasting Beauty, in Harwood, are known for making people look beautiful. But this Friday (the 15th February), they will be inflicting pain as part of a charity back wax to support the charity Brain Tumour UK.
To be diagnosed with a brain tumour is surely one of the most devstating moments one could experience. To be diagnosed twice, even more so, especially when that second one almost kills you. But then to see your partner suffer a brain haemorrhage, well, it sounds like the content of a Hollywood drama.
But for one couple in Breightmet, this is the exact position they found themselves in. Gaynor and Guido van den Berg met on holiday in Malia, Crete, and engaged after just 3 days. That was in 1988, and they are still together.
Fate has dictated that both have suffered brain trauma, with Guido being diagnosed with two brain tumours, the latter of which was the size of a hen's egg and caused complications which nearly killed him. Gaynor fell victim to a brain haemorrhage that took three months to recover from.
And that is why both of them are doing something to raise money for the excellent charity Brain Tumour UK, so that more can be done to help those affected. Unable to do anything too exertive, Guido has decided to opt for something no man wants to go through - a back wax.
And it will all be done by the wonderful beauticians at Lasting Beauty in Harwood. Guido couldn't be in better hands.
