More Volunteers Needed At Bolton Hospice Charity Shops
Did you know it costs around £3 Million to keep Bolton Hospice open every single year?
The Hospice cares for local terminally ill people and supports their families and carers and two thirds of the money needed has to be raised by the Hospice itself.
As well as The Bolton Hospice Lottery which generates a fantastic income while giving people the chance to win £1000 every single week, Bolton Hospice operates 6 charity shops in the town which are manned by around 300 volunteers and only 4 paid staff. The youngest volunteer is aged just 16 and many of the older ones are in their 80’s but the thing that drives them all is the knowledge that their hard work goes to helping Bolton Hospice continue it’s invaluable work and everyone gets a great feeling of satisfaction and pride in the work they do.
Without the volunteers to man the shops and help out with the many charitable fund raising events throughout the year, the Hospice would have to close it’s doors and anyone who has been touched by the work of this great facility and it’s staff knows exactly how much of a loss that would be to Bolton
New volunteers are required all the time and there are lot’s of reasons to do it, not least it’s a good cause but also it gives you a sense of duty, a great social feeling and it keeps you fit!
The annual income from the shops is around £500,000 and more volunteers and donations of clothing, bric a abrac, small quality furniture and other items are always required. The shops have suffered recently from a reduced flow of saleable items coming in, so if you have good quality items you no longer need, give them to a great cause. Donations can be dropped off at any of the shops.
If you fancy volunteering, contact Cathy Wright, Shops Manager, on 01204 663063. No experience in required as training is given and a short trial period means you can give it a go to find out if you like it and if in fact the job suits you.
Two information days are taking place in September, at The Hospice for anyone interested in volunteering, 5.30-7.00pm September 8th and 10.00-11.30am on September 11th.
For more information contact Cathy Wright on 01204 663063.
