Bolton Council has installed a new £12,000 outdoor gym at Queens Park in Bolton.
The gym equipment, which includes two fitness slaloms, a fitness walker and a fitness leg push is part of a £2m investment programme, in which the council is investing in local sports and recreational facilities across the borough. This is money which can only be invested into council-owned land and buildings and cannot be used on the day to day running of the council.
The gym has already attracted interest from runners, walkers, cyclists and other fitness fanatics who use the park on a regular basis.
As part of the £2m investment programme, the council will also be investing in a £474,000 sports development, which includes four new football pitches, changing rooms and toilets at Hulton Lane Playing Fields; over 600,000 on draining other playing fields, over £300,000 in refurbishing tennis courts, over £200,000 on new and refurbishing multi-use games areas, and approximately £150,000 on cycle trails.
Councillor John Byrne, Cabinet Member for Neighbourhood and Community Services said: “We’re really excited to have installed Bolton’s first outdoor gym. Queens Park is already popular with walkers, runners and cyclists and we hope that this new outdoor gym will provide an added attraction for them to visit the park. It allows them to use traditional gym equipment in an attractive location and we’re sure it will be a popular addition to our park facilities.
The other investment we will be making in draining other pitches, refurbishing tennis courts and creating cycle trails should mean that there is a sport or activity for everyone across the borough.”
