Olympic excitement struck Bolton this week as it was revealed that the new mascots for the 2012 games in London hail from Bolton.
Bolton was chosen as one of a handful of locations to host a launch event this week and show the first screening of a specially created Olympic mascot film.
The film, which takes the form of a childrens tale, revealed on Wednesday that the new Olympic mascots were born in Bolton and created from 'droplets' of the same Bolton steel which is being used to build the stadium in London.
The story was written by Michael Morpurgo and was inspired by the fact that Bolton firm Watson Steel is suppling the steel structure for the Olympic stadium in London. The company will also supply the structure for the handball arena, the velodrome, the basketball arena and the aquatic centre.
