The British Transplant Games begin today and there’s lots to get involved in and watch over the 4 day games. Over 1,000 athletes will take part in dozens of sports across Bolton, with hundreds of volunteers and crowds watching on.
The Opening Ceremony begins at 6.30pm tonight in Victoria Square, although there are plenty of events happening before that.
The events taking place include fishing, cycling, archery, volleyball, tennis, football and badminton between Thursday 7th and Sunday 10th of August.
On Thursday August 7th there’s archery between 11.30am and 4.30pm at Bolton Arena and snooker between 1.30 and 4.30pm at Bolton snooker club.
Bolton Arena plays host to the majority of events on Friday August 8th. It’s badminton between 9am and 1pm, volleyball between 1.30 and 4.30pm and finally tennis between 5 and 8.30pm. Then the action switches to the darts competition and the Bolton Whites Hotel from 8.30pm. Fishing begins at 9.30am at Bradshaw Hall Fisheries and there’s also be golf at Regent Park Golf Club and cycling at the UCLan Sports Arena in Preston.
On Saturday August 9th there’s swimming events at Bolton One, table tennis at Bolton Lads and Girls Club and the adult 5 a side football competition at Bolton Arena. Hundreds of non-athletes will line the course at Leverhulme Park for The Bolton News Donor Run too. Not forgetting the lawn bowls at the Bolton Flat Green Bowling Club.
The final day of competition will see the athletics events take centre stage, as the track and field events take place at Bolton Arena between 9am and 5pm.
To close proceedings there will be a gala dinner at the Bolton Whites Hotel between 6.30pm and 1am to celebrate everyone’s achievements at the Games.
