It’s that time of year where the mornings are very frosty, here’s a few handy tips from Lostock Motor Works on how to prepare your car on a frosty morning.
We’ve all been there, the dreaded morning de-icing the car where we have to run in for some more water, or the children have forgot something for school which takes us on to point 1
1) Don’t leave your keys in the ignition
It’s common at this time of year for thieves to be waiting around for the perfect moment. It only takes a second for you to nip into the house for something, and then they have the keys to your car, possibly your home and more.
2) Leave your car in the garage
If your house has a garage, it’s always best to leave your car in the garage over night when you know it’s going to be a frosty morning. Having your car in the garage will keep the car frost free saving you much more time in the morning.
3) Cover your windscreens
Not everybody has a garage, so if you don’t, consider covering your windscreen with a sheet at night before bed. This will reduce the amount of frost on your car saving you time in the morning when it comes to de-frosting it.
4) Keep stocked up with de-icer
Make sure you have a great supply of de-icing materials, de-icer and keep an ice scraper handy. They really will come in useful when de-icing the car in the morning.
5) Never put hot water on your windscreen
A lot of people don’t realise this and often do it on frosty mornings, but if you boil the kettle and pour boiling water over your windscreen, you run a great risk of your windscreen cracking from the temperature change. If you are going to put a little bit of water on your car, make sure it’s only a tiny bit warm.
