The Dean Thompson Memorial Fund do a great job raising funds for the Young Oncology Unit at Christies. They are holding a sponsored walk across Morecambe Bay on Saturday 18th May 2013 and you could take part.
Starting from Arnside at 11am, the walk will take around four and a half hours to complete, finishing at Kent's Bank, Grange-Over-Sands. There'll be some breathtaking scenery to take in, as well as a wade across a river usually up to mid-calf level (but that all depends on the weather conditions).
And, to make things more convenient, there are three options to chosse from:
Option 1 includes return travel by coach from Horwich, Adlington and Chorley, and the registration fee is £15.00 per person. Unfortunately, no dogs are allowed on the coaches.
Option 2 is for the walk only, and the registration fee is £5.00 per person.
Option 3 includes a coach from Kent’s Bank (the end of the walk) back to Arnside for those of you who wish to use your own transport up to Arnside for the start of the walk. The registration for this is £10.00 per person.
The cost of registration only covers the expenses incurred from hiring coaches, insurance and printing costs, so it's your mission to raise as much sponsorship as you possibly can.
All money raised will be donated to the Young Oncology Unit at Christies. This unit treats 16 - 24 year olds diagnosed with cancer from Manchester, Lancashire and Cumbria. The hospital is looking to expand the ward, which will allow them to care for more patients.
Dean Thompson was treated on that ward, before he tragically lost his battle with a rare bone cancer, Osteosarcoma. He was a much loved brother and son, and the fund set up in his name has raised over £42,000 for the Young Oncology Unit so far.
