Bolton Cancer Voices the new Choir being formed by Bolton Cancer Patients and Carers Consultative Group is to be directed by Clive Rushworth, a well-known and respected Musical Director who has worked with many local Choirs and Amateur Operatic Societies across the region. Mr Rushworth who is Head of Performing Arts at St Gabriel’s RC High School, Bury said:-
‘I am honoured to have been approached to develop this Choir; it’s a really worthwhile cause and I hope it will attract a lot of interest.’
Membership of the Choir is open to cancer patients living throughout Bolton, whether newly diagnosed, living with cancer as a life-limiting condition or a cancer survivor; members are welcome to take along a family member or friend to join with them.
Though the Choir will perform publically people don’t need to be able to read music or be fantastic singers they just need enthusiasm, a willingness to learn and the desire to have fun. There are no membership fees; children are welcome but need to be accompanied by an adult.
Karen Elliott, Chair of Bolton Cancer Patients and Carers Consultative Group said:-
‘People shouldn’t worry about being able to attend every single rehearsal. Starting a choir of this nature we fully appreciate and accept that sometimes due to their illness or treatment people will not always feel up to coming and we would like to reassure everyone that this is not an issue.
This is an exciting new venture for us and with Choirs generally enjoying a resurgence in popularity we hope that it will capture people’s imagination.
We want the Choir to be a source of inspiration not only for its members but for the many others whose lives are touched by cancer.’
The first rehearsal is on Monday, 25th June, 7.15pm in The Friends Meeting House, Silverwell Street, Bolton, next to the Parish Church.
