Aromatherapy has been around for many years. Our descendants used it to reduce stress, refresh the mind and help ease the symptoms of other ailments and now, many years later, it is still being used for exactly the same reasons.
So what is it then? Well aromatherapy is using oils from plants that have been proven to bring health benefits to a person, in the form of a massage, diffuser or compress.
The aromatherapy oils penetrate the atmosphere and are breathed in through the nose to the part of the brain that influences the nervous and hormonal system. These are linked with memory and emotional behavior and so can reduce stress levels.
Having an aromatherapy message can help with insomnia, headaches, depression and many more medical conditions. It alleviates tension that has built up in the body, especially in the neck, shoulders and back. Masseuses usually use oils in the massage to increase the relaxation levels and release stress from within.
At Bolton Therapy Centre you can enjoy a 60 minute aromatherapy treatment. This includes time for your therapist to discuss your treatment with you and choose the right essential oils for your needs.
In 1985, an International Federation of Aromatherapists was established to tell the public about the advantages that aromatherapy can bring to them and just generally tell then what aromatherapy is. Aromatherapy Awareness Week takes place between the 9th and 15th June, so see for yourself the benefits aromatherapy can bring.
