Have you tried out our tasty new best of Bolton member, Reel Fish and Chips, yet? If not you need to head to their shop on Deane Road in Bolton.
Although Reel Fish and Chips only opened at the end of January 2014, this quintessentially English meal has been around for over 100 years. The oldest fish and chip shop opened in Leeds in 1865 and has been serving this lovely dish continually ever since.
So which condiment do you have your fish and chips with? Surprisingly, not as many fish and chip shops serve vinegar as you might think. Non brewed condiments are much more popular nowadays. Scottish folk prefer fish and chips with chippy sauce (vinegar and brown sauce) whilst the people of Belgium like their fish and chips with mayonnaise. Chinese people like fish and chips with sugar and British chef Heston Blumenthal say you should eat fish and chips with pickled onion juice.
My personal favourite side has got to be mushy peas however! At Reel Fish and Chips you can ask for mushy peas, chutney, peri peri sprinkle, gravy, baked beans, chilli sauce, grated cheese and curry sauce with ypur meal.
In order to get extra batter, ask Reel Fish and Chips for scraps or wi’bits to get the extra crunchy leftover batter with your meal. Or why not plump for scallop, potato deep fried in fish batter?
Everybody loves fish and chips. The Beatles were pictured eating fish and chips and they were mentioned in the Charles Dickens novel “A Tale of Two Cities.”
