Bolton Arts Forum was set up in 1993 as the result of Bolton Metro’s Arts and Cultural Strategy seeking to develop a focus for individuals and groups in Bolton participating in arts and cultural activities. The objectives of the forum are to establish a strong, committed network of art related organizations and individuals and further the development of arts and culture in Bolton by: exchanging information, organizing training, publicising and promoting local arts and culture, discussing and contributing to arts and cultural policy, increasing the resources available for arts and cultural production in Bolton and by doing so support the advancement and education of the public, in particular through the promoting and practice of arts and media. Bolton Arts Forum has a membership of nearly 200 and has produced several directories of members. The strength of its membership lies in the diverse membership base which brings together the various strands of the voluntary and community groups.
