Description
Departing from Piazza Esquilino, you will walk through Piazza Venezia, located in the heart of Rome and a buzzing metropolis, dominated by the statue of Il Vittoriano to reach St Peter’s Square. St. Peter's Basilica stands on the traditional site where Peter - the apostle who is considered the first pope - was crucified and buried. St. Peter's tomb is under the main altar and many other popes are buried in the basilica as well. Originally founded by Constantine in 324, St. Peter's Basilica was rebuilt in the 16th century by Renaissance masters including Bramante, Michelangelo and Bernini.
We then visit Piazza Navona, a typical baroque square built by Caesar Domiziano in 92 A.C. Today it is known as the square of the artists and the "Four Rivers Fountain" that dominates that square hosts on the top of an original Egyptian obelisk . View the architectural wonder of Ancient Rome, the Pantheon, which was much admired and studied by Michelangelo himself. Today it is the burial place of ancient Italian Kings. The first half of our tour will end at the world famous Trevi Fountain, a masterpiece by Nicola Salvi – the legend has it that you throw a coin in the fountain and return to Rome!
Then enjoy a scrumptious lunch at typical Italian restaurant with drinks included.
