Bridgend Communities First recently got off to a wild start to their summer programme of activities when the Nearly Wild Show came to Coleg Cymunedol Y Dderwen in Tondu, to show young people an assortment of animals including snakes, lizards, mice, chinchillas, an owl, a bearded dragon called ‘Bert’ and even cockroaches and a tarantula!
The Welsh Government funded Bridgend Communities First’s summer programme is free of charge to anyone living in Communities First post code areas in Bridgend County Borough. There is plenty for you to see and do throughout the summer, whatever your age.
Activities include a summer school activities programme for young people in year six, including children’s entertainment, a Rock Academy music workshop, literacy and media tour at Cardiff FC and a trip to Techniquest. Free to all children who attend Halo Leisure’s summer playscheme in Ogmore Valley Life Centre, the Show Racism the Red Card workshop and football tournament will show young people what hate crime is and how to stop it.
Computer sessions are available to people who have no computer experience or need brushing up on their existing skills and you will be able to find out about internet safety and get help on how to keep you and your children safe online.
Worried about debt? Concerned about managing the cost of Christmas? The Citizens Advice Bureau and Bridgend Life Savers Credit Union will able to answer your money-related questions.
Get a lifestyle check to find out how to improve your lifestyle and how to minimise your health risks and find out how to make cheap and easy meals, including healthy lunchbox aides.
With fun days, football and basketball sessions, garden open day and a BMX Race Day – there is plenty to do this summer with Bridgend Communities First’s summer activity programme!
