VOLT is a regional circus scratch night, creating an opportunity for circus artists to share work-in-progress pieces in a professional environment. Artists present short pieces of new work to a public audience, discuss their work in feedback sessions, and invite the audience to provide constructive criticism to take away. For scratch, the work does not need to be polished. You might see the first draft of a brand new piece, or a reworked extract from an existing show. Artists may be making their solo stage debut or moving from studies to professional performance, or they could be an established circus artist trying something completely new.
The night will consist of three new and developing acts, one being ‘IndustrialFishing,’ a solo club juggling piece created and performed by Alex Morton. A trained Juggler and a Circus artist who studied between Circomedia and The National Centre for Circus Arts.
Through the wondrous use of trapeze and aerial straps, Ellie Barnard & Gaia Lerace present ‘Who’s in Charge’. Exploring the daily injustices of womanhood, the continuous grip of male power and the ability to create safe spaces where shamed body parts are not censored. These two women expose their depiction of society, through song, circus, theatre and partnership.
‘Windows Update’ by Johnny Jay & Hollie Stonier. This piece combines their talents of aerial silks and humour to display weird and wacky story of the interaction between an 87 year old east Londoner and bingo fanatic, Leslie and 28 year old Derrick, a double glazed window salesman.
