Some people might view Valentine's Day as a big old commercial nonsense - how many times have you heard a comment like "you should be saying I love you every day of the year, not just on Valentine's Day"? And yes, those that haven't been lucky in love might resent the enforced "celebration".
But quite frankly, I enjoy going out for a meal - great food and I don't have to wash up or tidy the kitchen afterwards. So I don't mind Valentine's Day!
This year we've booked to go to The British Queen in Locksbottom. It's a firm favourite anyway but when I saw the Valentine's menu, that was enough to persuade me that it was the place to head to this year.
They have a wonderful selection of mouthwatering specials on offer, in addition to the usual offerings on the a la carte menu. You could choose the indulgent gravadlax of ocean-reared rainbow trout, salted cucumber and crème fraîche. Or how about perfectly cooked rack of lamb served with Dauphinoise potatoes (my absolute favourite indulgence), smooth pea puree and lamb jus. To finish I'm very tempted by the melt in the mouth caramel souffle which they promise will be as light as air.
The chefs at The British Queen have concocted dishes that truly are the food of love. Check out the specials menu here.
