Councillor Julian Benington of Biggin Hill Ward was elected Mayor of Bromley for 2014-15 at the Annual Meeting of the Council on Thursday 4 June 2014.
One of his first duties as mayor was to appoint a Deputy Mayor of which he appointed Councillor Kate Lymer of Bickley.
He said: “It is an immense privilege to have been appointed as the Mayor of the London Borough of Bromley. I am very proud of our borough and it is an honour to represent it during my Mayoral year. I am looking forward to meeting as many people as possible during this time and supporting the many wonderful local charities, community groups and organisations in the work they do for the good of Bromley. This includes my two chosen charities. The first, Bromley Community Fund, is an exciting charitable venture set up to give grants to local charities and voluntary organisations to help them support our communities and local people. The second, Connect, helps people with Aphasia, a disability affecting all ages caused by damage to the communication centre of the brain, usually by a stroke but also from a brain haemorrhage, head injury or tumour. “
