The work surrounding the Bromley South railway upgrade will be funded through the government's Access for All and national stations improvement programme, which will focus on improving accessibility, modernising station facilities and providing a better end-to-end journey experience for passengers.
Construction work is due to start in the Autumn, with step-free access provided in time for the London 2012 Olympics. It is hoped all other improvements can be completed in time for Summer 2012, however, subject to planning.
Dave Ward, Network Rail's route director for Kent wrote:We want to attract more people to use the railway. This means we need to give passengers the end-to-end journey experience they expect, including making the railway easier to access and providing a pleasant station environment and modern facilities.
The proposed improvements at Bromley South will not only make a big difference for passengers in time for the Olympics, they will be a true legacy which will benefit future generations.

Vince Lucas, service delivery director wrote:Bromley South is one of our most important stations and has a large number of passengers using it every day. We are pleased that this work will be taking place and it can only help to encourage more people onto the railways. We will work with Network Rail to ensure that any disruption is kept to a minimum.
Network Rail is planning to share the proposals with passengers and community representatives over the coming weeks, at which time feedback will be welcomed for consideration before plans are finalised.
