Making a charity shop work, and work well, isn't something that just happens. It takes lots of organisation, energy and time. And of course it takes some very special people to make it all maximise the financial element too: volunteers.

2gether charity shop in Chislehurst is the finest example we can think of that's nailed it!

Not only does the shop always look so inviting with all the stock displayed well but every volunteer you encounter always gives service with a smile.

2gether has over 50 volunteers that give up a minimum of 3 hours per week to help the shop operate successfully. Previous manager Clare Herriot who only recently left in May after 12 years spoke of the difference first volunteering and then becoming manager of the shop had made to her, by saying "Being in the community, making a difference and building a shop family has been a true privilege." and Clare's not the only one to feel the value of giving up time for a worthy cause.

Margaret says about her volunteering at 2gether "There is a warm and caring feeling of helping to raise money for a much needed centre for young people on the local housing estate. Many of our customers visit the shop not only to buy but also to have a chat and perhaps a cup of coffee and we always make them feel welcome."

Volunteering really couldn't be easier - and it doesn't have to be a 2gether, it really can be anywhere in the community. There are so many projects in Bromley Borough alone, many of which mean you can use the skills you already have to help.

Take a look at the community links website here and see if there are any roles there that you might be interested in.

You too could feel like you're making a difference in your local community.
