The Made in Bury Business Academy

The Made in Bury Business Academy was launched in April 2016 in conjunction with Bury Council, working with a limited number of carefully selected start-up businesses to give them the best possible start to develop their business. Now funded by the Made in bury Weekly £2,000 Draw.

Statistics show that 40% of start-up businesses fail within their first year, 70% of start-ups don't make it to their 5^th year of business and only 9% see success with ten or more years under their belt. The Made in Bury Business Academy was launched with a goal in mind to improve the survival rates of local start-up businesses.

From individuals who have no formal business background to larger businesses which are just branching out to work independently, the Made in Bury Business Academy welcomes a huge range of businesses, providing opportunities to learn a wide range of skills, share experiences and share best practice.

Each module in the Business Academy is designed to educate and inform start-ups about the potential obstacles which can be detrimental to growth, how to prepare for them and how to make the most of the numerous positive opportunities and support facilities which are available to ensure success.

The Made in Bury Brunch Club

This ladies-only business networking organisation is one of the first of its kind. The Brunch Club is all about women 'getting together, supporting each other, engaging and enjoy themselves.'

The idea behind the Brunch Club came from Debi Fellone from Made In Bury and Kate Holt from Bury BusinessLodge. These ladies wanted to create a networking group which is exclusive, unique and that doesn't include men!

As a women's only business community, the Brunch Club has a very different dynamic to other networking groups. It is about listening, sharing and getting to know each other.

Debi says:

"After many years of avoiding women’s only networking, I tried it and loved it and wanted to bring a new relaxed networking club to Bury. So, after a chat with the ladies at Bury BusinessLodge, the Brunch Club was born. Our launch meeting was on the 23rd of May 2014, and I’m delighted to say that the group is growing. Our meetings are casual, fun and supportive."

Objectives

The Brunch Club is all about success. The five objectives of this fantastic networking community are:

• To offer opportunities to engage with business owners and decision makers from a diverse range of business sectors
• To bring together women who can help and influence each other to succeed.
• To be a forum for business owners to share expertise. Every individual has something to share and help others succeed.
• To host several social events.
• To raise funds for Bury Hospice.

Brunch Club Events

We have 30 members.

The Brunch Club meetings take place at Bury BusinessLodge, Imperial House, and are designed to be informal, fun and supportive. They are about building connections, making new friends and having a great time.

Of course, networking can work up an appetite, a tasty brunch is served with tea, coffee and juice, or for special occasions even a glass of prosecco.

 

Brunch Club Details

The Brunch Club meets 18 times a year on the 2^nd and 4^th Friday of every month, we break for the summer months of July and August and have a social event for December.

The Made in Bury Weekly £2,000 Draw 

The Made in Bury Weekly £2,000 Draw is a not-for-profit initiative, launched in May 2018, which supports Bury businesses in their formative years in the Made in Bury Business Academy and in time will also offer interest free loans to Bury Businesses.
