Arrived at Hotel after travelling from the South of France, approx 11pm Tuesday evening, had been travelling over 24hrs so to arrive and be greeted with a smile and consideration due to our long journey( room upgrade) to a quieter side of hotel we felt very grateful and relieved. This hotel has always been our first choice when visiting family in the area and will continue to be so as food, room and all the staff are truly helpful, friendly and easy to deal with.
Keep up the good work, here for another week and looking forward to our continued stay.

Regards
Janet (Fusterouau)

1 night stay on Saturday night for a Gala night they had on, which was excellent - lovely food, excellent service, and a good band. Everyone in our party enjoyed it.

Reception and public areas all lovely, staff very friendly and plenty of them. The room I had was a bit dated decor-wise (so many hotels like putting flowery bedding/curtains in the rooms don't they! Is it to make us think we're staying at our Mum's house?), but the bed was comfy, everything as it should be in the bathroom, kettle, iron, tv and radio all good.

Breakfast was fantastic - plenty of food on the buffet and all of it piping hot, good choice of the healthier stuff too. Reception had warned us breakfast was going to be very busy, but it wasn't that bad, and plenty of staff were around.

Glad I braved the roads in the snow. We all had a good stay, and some of us were talking about going back if they do another Gala night. I'd probably join in.

The rooms haven't been refurbished to the same style as the other De Vere Venues. There is a flowerly bed spread and wall paper with old tired bathrooms. As you walk into reception it smacks of the lovely modern De Vere brand but then walk into the bedroom and it's really disappointing. Everything else is great e.g. food, pool but please update the rooms like your other hotels as they are great.

This hotel seems to get mixed reviews though I have never had any issues staying here which I have done quite frequently over the last 6 months. Rooms are always clean and staff are always very friendly.

Restaurant is overpriced though I have never had a complaint about the quality of the food. However after sampling nearly everything on the menu it can get a bit boring so they should try and change the menu choices.

All rooms have free wireless internet and all the basics you would expect. Rooms have no air-conditioning though so on a warm night it tends to stay warm even with windows open.

I stayed here with my family (wife & 2 young children- 5 & 3) whilst staying for a family christening nearby. We were very impressed overall, with two things in particular standing out:
- The leisure club, with its 23m pool, spa, sauna, steam room and massive fitness suite. I have been in many more expensive hotel leisure clubs that did not come close to these facilities.
- The price, which was remarkably cheap for what was on offer.
There was nothing about this hotel that I could particularly complain about- breakfast was good, rooms were a reasonable size and well equipped, staff were fine. Given the price, I think this is the best value for money I have ever had from a hotel in the UK!

Not a bad stay but could have been a lot better.

1. Upon arrival at the car park you are greeted with a recorded message telling you that “car thieves operate in the area”. Most Welcoming!!
2. Strangely there is a massive amount of disabled parking at the front, in front of the 30 or so steps to the entrance of the hotel, with no visible signs of a disabled entrance or lift!
3. Checking was smooth and efficient except my morning paper didn’t arrive.
4. The room was adequate, clean with a comfortable bed but badly in need of a general update with outdated wall paper, fixtures & fittings, thought we had stepped back in time about 20 years. (think motorway travel lodges of the 1980’s)
5. The main problem was the noise, we were on the top floor but could not get to sleep due to the party place in the function room as the night went on the disco just got louder finally ending just before 1am – tried phoning the reception, they simply were not interested.
6. Leisure facilities are excellent and spotlessly clean even managed to swim a few lengths before breakfast.
7. Breakfast - again was Ok but not great, it was completely self service, including the tea and coffee which is rather poor for a 4 star facility. The food looked as if it had been sitting there a while and badly in need to a stir / refresh, not to much to ask I don’t think.
8. Check out was also poor, tried to charge me for a prepaid room and a paper that never arrived and then refused to give me a copy of the receipt. Probably all due to the receptionist being more interested in catching up on the gossip with her colleague rather than seeing to the customer in front of her.
9. Luckily the car was still there in the morning (see point 1)!!!

Would we stay here again, yes probably at a push (if the rate was right), but more for the leisure facilities than anything else.

Was a little wary after reading reviews on TA but the hotel turned out to be a pleasant surprise. I mainly choose the hotel as it was close to relatives who I were visiting for the weekend. Entrance is definitely enticing & there is a bar off to one side and the restaurant off to the other. Check in was straight forward and staff polite. Our rooms were on the second floor & were quite nice, I’d say what you would expect for a good 3 star room – clean, nice bathroom, ample room to move around, good size tv with plenty of channels, tea/coffee making facilities, comfortable bed (with extra pillows!). Would be nice if it could have a few of the little extras – such as a fridge / mini bar, toiletries in bathroom – but for a short stay you can live without. Our rate included dinner (allowed an £18 spend per person, based on 2 people) on the first night and breakfast on 2 mornings and for £130 I thought this was excellent value. Dinner on the first night was quite good, we were a party of 4, so we tried a good variety of food (4 starters, 4 mains) and everyone was happy with what they received. Service was a bit slow, but otherwise ok. Breakfast each morning was ok – standard English hot breakfast. Breakfast food could be fresher, it seemed that on mornings when guest turn over was slow, the food quickly dried out under the hot lamps. It was great having the bar open to late and you could also purchase drinks for your room at the late night bar. The other complaint would be bar prices, which typical to a hotel are higher than the pubs in the area. So I would suggest venturing out, even to the tavern across the car park which looked like it served a lovely roast carvery.
For those interested the fitness centre and pool looked excellent - didn't have time to sample though. It is a public fitness centre, however hotel guests can use free of charge.
Tip - don't miss visiting the Bury markets - Fri & Sat (I think) - they are the best!! they sell everything you could possibly think of (well almost)
Would definitely stay here again if in the area.

We stayed for two weekend nights at this hotel. There were an unbelievably large number of steps to be climbed to reach the reception area (especially when carrying suitcases). We did eventually discover that there was a lift from the car parking area for disabled guests but this was very poorly signed. Receptionist was very curt. She gave no information whatsoever about meals or leisure facilities available. Room was much as you would expect from a budget chain hotel - it was clean and of an adequate size - and there was a good choice of food for breakfast.

Stayed for 3 nights with family. Great swimming pool, gym and squash courts. Decent size family room. Note that some of the doubles are refurbished so it is worth requesting one at check in.

Stayed here quite a few times and would definitely return.

First room I was given wasn't made up - in fact it looked as if it had been vandalised ! so a great start. Staff resolved the matter in minutes. Comfortable room , pleasant bar and very handy for the motorway.

Just got back from our stay at the Village hotel for the Bank Holiday weekend and was most disappointed! Had been eagerly looking forward to it for weeks, having spent out a little more to stay somewhere nicer than a Premier Inn, etc. We checked in at reception, which is quite impressive-very modern and classy, just like the photo's on the website. Got our key to our standard dbl and that's where it all went wrong!! We opened the door to our room and thought we had been transported to a tacky BB about 30 years out of date!! The decor of the room was shocking, we were missing a sofa and it definately did not look like the pictures shown online!! I quickly headed down to Reception and told them what I thought-no way was I staying somewhere which I wouldn't pay £40 p/n let alone £90!! I was aware (from speaking with housecleaning) that there was a new block and asked to be moved. Luckily there was a superior room free and I had to pay an upgrade charge!! We hot-footed it to our new room. some distance away and down two lifts and felt like a mile away. The new room was ok, still nothing like what we had seen and not what I would class as Superior. The bathroom was very basic, take your own toiletries as you only get one hand soap, one loo roll and one shower gel. We didn't even get a hand-towel.
It's a shame, the restaurant and breakfast were great, but the hotel falls down on the bedrooms. If you're going for a treat, stay at a Premier one down the road!

On arrival the hotel reception staff could not have been nicer they explained about breakfast. They then explained about the leisure club and pool times as I had a child with me. Within a couple of minutes I was going up to the room. The room was what you would expect from a hotel chain but there was a large flat screen TV which was lovely to watch whilst lying in bed. The bed was very comfortable with the best pillows I have ever had in a hotel, this resulted in a great nights sleep. My only concern was the bathroom, as I have a disability I requested a room to suit me and was allocated a room that was suitable for wheelchairs. Indeed it was there was plenty of space and the bathroom was huge with grabrails around the WC and the sink was accessible for a wheelchair, but there was a high step to get into the shower and there was no seat inside, I found this a little odd as if I had have been in a wheelchair I proberbly would not be able to get in let alone stand to shower, as it was I struggled to access it and getting out was really bad as there was no grabrail on the outside. Breakfast the next morning was totally stress free. We arrived about 9.10am and it was fairly quiet. We were shown to out table and was given a good explaination of what was on offer and where to find it. Food was very nice and there was plenty of it, and there were helpful staff on hand if you needed anything. The leisure club was very nice but on the morning we went the heating was not working so the changing rooms, showers and pool hall were all quite cold. The pool was ok but not to the usual temperature, this did not bother us to much and by the time we came out the showers had started to get a little warmer. Check out was very easy and again the reception staff were very friendly.

Incredibly helpful staff changed booking at short notice to accomodate my daughter coming from France to join my son and I at a wedding in nearby Bolton. She got caught up in French train strike and reception staff were able to help her check her return travel arrangements on line.
They found a catholic church for my son to attend, found a sewing kit when my dress unravelled an hour before we had to leave, helped us book a taxi and when the driver had never heard of the wedding venue looked it up on the internet so we has the postcode for the drivers sat nav.
The room was clean and big enough even with a large teenager on the sofa bed, the pool was an unexpected delight and the food in the Verve restaurant good (although the service was very slow).
Would recommend highly

This is a smashing hotel. A friendly welcome, clean spacious rooms, great service in the restaurant, bar and leisure facility, nothing was too much trouble. Don't miss the volcanic rocks in the verve restaurant, cook your own steak, bought over by the restaurant manager. Good breakfast, great choice of food.

Bury itself is a delight. The food in the market is beyond compare. People are so nice everywhere. Had a fab time.

I stayed here with a group of 12 friends for a break and to go out into Manchester. Overall we had an enjoyable stay but there were a few issues that bring down the general good standard of the hotel. The check in staff and pub/restaurant were excellent and could not be faulted. The pool and leisure areas were all to a very high standard and fairly quiet on the saturday afternoon when we went. The public areas of the hotel are all very modern and clean and there are different areas to get a drink and have a sit down so it doesn't feel crowded. We were given rooms all together and away from the main area of the hotel so it was very quiet and we were all able to get a good nights sleep. We had no issues with the availablity of our rooms and even though we had booked as one group and arrived at different times there were no issues with this.

And on to the problem !

Rooms - the hotel seem to get their priorites wrong within the room. The were a few areas that were very shabby - the celling tiles were stained in the room and the bathroom had cracks in the celling (around the lights above the showers which can;t be that safe !) and dirty grout and stains on the walls. These are all things that could be easily and quickly fixed by the hotel - but instead of doing jobs like this the hotel have put brand new huge tvs in the room !

Breakfast - the food itself was plentyful and of good quality - especially the muffins and cakes ! The service was a bit hit and miss but as we were having a lazy sunday breakfast this didn't matter. There were only a few young staff working who seemed to be very busy. They forgot to come and ask about tea/coffee and we ran out of plates - but on asking these were bought quickly and politly. What I did have issue with was the behaviour and attitde of the restaurant manager/supervisor to her staff. She was giving them instructions very loudly in the middle of the restaurant - usually next to our table ! Rather than have to resort to this and disturb people it would have been better to recruit a few more staff !

I visited this hotel with my husband and young son on 31st May. I had visited previously several years ago but found that common areas had been redecorated. I'm not quite sure about the new decor. It was so dark inside.

Our room was very clean and looked out onto a small river at the rear of the property which meant it was peaceful - no road noise.

There was a fridge in the room (no mini bar though) which I was pleased about as we had brought drinks and snacks with us.

We used the Leisure facilities on the morning after our stay and found the family changing rooms to be of a high standard and staff were helpful and friendly.

Breakfast was good. Not a huge choice of food but perfectly adequate and any problems were rectified quickly (coffee machine stopped working but was fixed within minutes).

Check out was quick and efficient. Overall for the price we paid I can't complain. I would stay there again.

Quite supprised by this hotel. Never been before. This was the closest hotel to Manchester City Centre I could get because of the UEFA Cup. Nice rooms, comfortable, bathroom is a bit small but still nice. Watched the football in the hotel bar, beer is average price. Had a Thai curry for an evening meal, not too bad which was also reasonably priced. Few problems checking in, but that was between the hotel and my booking agent. If travelling by tram from the city centre, it will cost about £5.20 for a taxi. Would reccomend to others if staying in the area.

We have stayed here several times now and really like it. It's close to a good road network, next door to a great pub for a little variety and good food. Also very handy for the Trafford Centre and Salford Quays.

The hotel is always busy, the rooms are clean and the normal type of hotel room you would expect. The reception, bar and restaurant have been updated since our last visit and that has made a difference.

Unlike the reviewer below we have never been faced by the scenes they witnessed. Although there were several weddings going on this did not impact residents there for a quiet weekend. The bar was reasonably priced and the food very good.

Breakfast was a scrum on Sunday but Monday the hotel was quieter and it was a nice leisurely affair.

My only gripe was the monday morning receptionist who was downright surly and obviously need to go back to charm school. that aside the rest of the staff were great and worked so hard over an extremely busy holiday weekend.

We've stayed at the Village several times and enjoyed clean, spacious rooms and value for money. To get the cheapest prices do not book direct with the hotel but go through the central on-line booking system for Village hotels. For not much extra we also up-grade to superior rooms.

The leisure facilities are superb! They can get busy at popular times but early and late on we found them to be quiet.

The downside? The bar always seems to have just 2 staff on and at busy times that is no where near enough. Big queues form so be prepared to queue or alternatively go across the car park to the nearby pub for really nice food. Also breakfast is self-service and again at peak times long queues form and food tems often take time to replace.

But overall good value for money.

Booked a 2 night stay to attend a family wedding (elsewhere). Lobby and restaurant appear to have been upgraded to a modern style, that is, dark! Lobby had plenty of chairs and tables. Rooms could have been cleaned better. Chambermaids ignored "do not disturbed' sign. Could do with the décor being updated as they are rather tired and tatty. No radio or alarm clock in room. Receptionist failed to give us any information about facilities or timing of breakfast etc. Plenty of car parking so that isn’t a problem but disabled access is not the best, with elevator requiring a walk to get to it, and didn’t seem to want to work efficiently. Without use of disabled elevator a lot of steps to climb to get to reception as it is on the second floor. First floor houses swimming pool, gym and café. They only one elevator in the hotel itself.

Evening meal in restaurant is only average with service slow and we were not informed of the specials. Breakfast on weekends is busy and not very good, if you arrive at the wrong time. Coffee machine is too complicated; a machine designed for staff to operate! Breakfast is allegedly cooked to order during the week but much of it appeared to have been left standing!

We only paid £59 a night for B&B for two so in terms of value you can’t complain as you are not likely to get a price locally. However, you require a car as it isn’t near any other amenities.

Thursday night was karaoke-night so I could not sleep because of the noise.
Negative point : no minibar in the room.

We have just returned from a two night stay at the Village hotel in Bury. The location was picked as we have friends who live near by. I was slightly nervous due to the not so brilliant reviews on TA, but I found a great deal on Laterooms which was 2 nights B and B, with dinner on the first night for £139 (for the 2 of us!), which I thought was a bit of a steal. The meals were lovely and the bed was comfortable and there was full use of the health club which included a swimming pool, sauna and a steam room. Great if you can get it at the right price!

The Hotel is part of the De Vere group oddly I have an aversion to "corparate hotels" I do not know why and it is irrational as most places are.
Any way I was quite surprised the room was standard nothing special nothing adverse either. The leisure facilities are fine sauna steam room gyms pool etc.
What seperated this hotel was the staff they are genuinly friendly and helpful. As I was attending a function i cant comment oin the restaurant save to say thet the menu at the function was fine the bar wsas not a rip off which is what normally mars a place.
Access is ideal straight off the m66 junction 2.

Just got back from a last minute weekend break here and had a great time. Had promised the kids a weekend's camping trip but we chickened out as the weather turned fowl, and we hunted for an alternative to the camping experience on the eve of our break and came up with this.

We got a great DBB deal for 2 nights for £129 for the 4 of us (2 adults + 2 kids),(kids ate breakfast for free but we needed to pay for their evening meal in the restaurant, this was very reasonable at around £4 each). We had a nice spacious room with a double bed, bed settee for the 2 kids and a table and 2 chairs. The bathroom had both bath and shower and the room was clean and modern in decoration. We loved the pool and leisure facilities. The hotel has a huge gym with seperate ladies gym if you prefer. We found the service to be excellent throughout and wouldn't hesitate in returning to this hotel, or maybe we'll try one of the other hotels in the Village chain next time.

On the whole, we did this weekend on a tight budget and spent our days exploring the local Lancashire countryside and put our NT membership to good use - Meaning the weekend came in under budget with 4 happy people. What more can you ask for? :-D

We paid £59 per night for a twin room including breakfast.
At this price, the accommodation was on a par with similar alternatives e.g: Travelodge et al.

The room was not huge by any means, but pretty clean & with a superbly powerful shower. The bed did seem somewhat older than the hotel itself (built 2001) but wasn't uncomfortable. Personally, I didn't think there was any difference between a duvet & a quilt, but we certainly had one or the other!

The main benefit of staying here is the free access to the pool, jacuzzi, steam room & sauna which were quite satisfactory.

Breakfast was fantastic for the price paid, but I would have expected perfection if I'd paid the ad hoc price for it ( £9.95).

One thing that might have irritated some more than others was the music from the bar which went on fairly late. Fortunately we were tired/merry enough to get to sleep in spite of it.

Bury town centre is walkable but if you're going to Gigg Lane for the footy you'd have a fair old hoof.
