On the 15th October, Becky Partington, sales Manager at Belvoir Sales and Lettings will take part in a half marathon for a cause that is close to her heart.
It's a true fact that we all whinge and gripe about the little things in life, Becky did too, that is until she heard about the plight of a brave little girl called Natalia.
Natalia is the niece of Becky's colleague, Nicol.
Natalia has a rare, non hereditary birth defect which affects the pelvis, particularly the hip bone, and the proximal femur. Proximal Femoral Focal Defidiciency (PFFD) or Congenital Femoral Deficiency(CFD) as it is often known can affect both sides of the body with the hip being deformed and the leg shortened.
Becky's Just Giving page tells us more:
Natalia's condition was picked up on the 20 week scan during pregnancy. It affected the left side of her hip, her
left thigh bone and left knee. After birth when she was growing, the shortening in her left leg got worse. Doctors told Natalia's parents that lengthening would not be successful and that doing a foot amputation would be her best chance of a childhood. Natalia had hip correction, knee correction and an amputation in March 2017.
The specialist ability centre in Wythenshaw then took over her care. In less than 3 months she was walking on her new prosthetic leg. Her recovery was tough but she showed her determination and showed doctors just how amazing she is by being up and walking in 16 weeks after surgery.
Becky will be running the half marathon to raise funds for Natalia which will be donated to the Specialist Ability Centre at the University Hospital of South Manchester. A target of £250 has been set (but we know that this can be beaten)
Natalia is a true inspiration and has faced much adversity in her young years. An example to many!
If you'd like to support Becky in any way that you can, every little really does make a huge difference.
