HAPPY NEW YEAR TO ALL OUR CUSTOMERS!

A reminder – take care during the bad weather

Although the ice and snow from December has gone for now it is likely to return over the coming weeks so please take care.

Bluebird Care advises you to:-

  • Have enough essential medication to cover extended periods of bad weather so obtain prescriptions in advance.
  • Consider having a free flu “jab”, if you qualify – providing you some protection during the traditional flu season (normally January and February).
  • Maintain and service boilers – gas companies and plumbers were run off their feet during the early cold snap, when central heating systems malfunctioned, leaving older people and the vulnerable at risk.
  • Try to make sure a friend or neighbour is aware if you’re vulnerable and spending long periods alone.
  • Try not to venture out in extreme weather conditions unless it’s essential.

Customer Satisfaction Survey

The annual Bluebird Care Bury customer survey took place over December.

Thank you to all our customers who took the time to complete and return the questionnaire.

We are delighted to see that the overwhelming majority of responses gave us an excellent rating. Amongst the comments were the following of which we are particularly pleased: -

“we are extremely happy with [our carer’s] service and her interaction with Mary"
“enjoy the visits and company provided”
“couldn’t be better”
“the care workers are always polite and professional. They have friends”
“I would definitely recommend Bluebird Care”
“care workers are always very thoughtful, reliable, prompt and supportive”

We were also praised for our punctuality and, when necessary, communicating changes to care worker visits.

However, we know we must continue to improve our service and will work tirelessly to do so during 2011.

Awards for Staff

The secret of great service at Bluebird Care Bury is the quality of our staff and once again we are pleased to announce the winner of our Care Worker of the month award – in November it was Viv Hayes. Commenting on the award for Viv, who joined us in November 2009, Theresa Norris said, “Viv is an excellent carer who is very well liked by her customers”

Customer focus

As Bury Council continues the roll out of individual budgets for adult social care in the Borough it is finally becoming clear to everyone that this new regime is about promoting independent and fulfilling lives by giving customers choice and control over their care and support. Bluebird Care in Bury has adopted this approach from the day we opened our doors. We also believe that, for our customers to achieve the appropriate degree of independence, we must understand the positive risks they can take. This understanding comes from learning about the individual’s history, their wants and needs and their families and friendships. We do this at our initial meeting and throughout the care and support programme.

It is good to see that we have been at the forefront of this new approach and we will continue to ensure that our approach is focussed on the customer at all times.

New Staff

By the end of the month we should have 35 care workers on the team as work levels continue to grow. Following Donna’s transfer to the Care Co-ordinator role last month we have promoted 2 care workers (Denise and Neil) to senior care worker roles.
