Changes to Refuse Collection Routes

Okay, so refuse collection probably isn't the first thing you want to read about but it's something none of us can avoid.

Following a borough-wide council review of our waste collection arrangements, in which many variables were considered, Bury Council has decided to introduce new rubbish and recycling collection days to 20,000 households across Bury. These changes will take effect from Tuesday 24th November and it is hoped that they will give the tax payer better value for money, a more efficient service and be better for the environment, as fuel used for vehicles is reduced. This is the first major change to Bury's refuse collection service for 10 years.

What will change?

Routes and times will be changed, but frequency of collections will not. The golden rule as always is to leave out your bin before 7am on collection day. The council are issuing new calendars and leaflets regarding the changes affecting certain households, so residents will be aware of the new arrangements.

Glenn Stuart, Head of Waste Management said “We are doing everything we can in readiness for making these changes.  To prepare, the crews are making sure they are up to speed by familiarising themselves with the new more effective routes. We have also put plans in place to make sure that if a collection is missed when the new routes are introduced we will return
and carry out the collection the following day. We want to reassure local residents that we will be working hard to make sure the changes take place smoothly and customer satisfaction with the service we provide remains high.”
