The latest X Factor results show has caused a new wave of controversy as angry fans complain to Ofcom and take to Twitter after judge Cheryl Cole refused to vote in the sing-off stage of the contest.
Katie Waissel and Treyc Cohen, both mentored by Cole, sang for survival after polling the least public votes this weekend.
Cole took a controversial stance refusing to cast her vote over which of the contestants should be sent home, resulting in a majority vote from the other judges to save public hate-figure Katie Waissel.
Defeated Treyc Cohen has told media that she understands why Cole could not cast her vote but when quizzed by This Morning’s Phillip Schofield over whether the result was fair, she responded ‘probably not, looking at it that way, then. No’
Was Cole wrong to refuse to vote? Should she be allowed to flaunt the rules by ‘batting those Bo Peep eyes’? Viewers have flooded online forums and social media sites to voice their anger at the result. One condemned the show as a “total joke”, whilst others claimed that Cole is “spineless” and “shouldn’t be a judge.”
The X Factor and Cole’s reputation have been under the spotlight this year with the furore beginning in October over axed contestant Gamu Nhengu, followed by betting scandals and rule-breaking contestants. However, that’s likely to be musicto the ears of Simon Cowell and the show’s producers.
With the X Factor dominating the front pages of the tabloids yesterday morning, and still dominating sites like Twitter, this publicity will more than likely translate into increased viewing figures as fans tune in to see what happens next.
