East Lancashire Railway (ELR) is set to see record visitor numbers during this year’s Santa Specials.
Passenger figures are already up by 12% on 2009 which in itself saw an increase compared to the previous year, according to the event organisers.
No festive season at the East Lancashire Railway would be complete without the Santa Specials. It’s a Christmas tradition that is enjoyed by over 20,000 visitors each year. This year’s steam-hauled trains return once again from 27th November to 24th December 2010 with Santa Claus on board delivering presents to every child as well as a mince pie and small bottle of wine for the grown ups.
It’s a truly magical experience for all the family with the magical walk-through grotto lit by over 200 Christmas trees, beautifully decorated carriages, brass bands playing carols on the train and costumed characters. It’s the natural magic of a heritage railway station, the plumes of steam billowing from the locomotive into the cold winter air and the smells and sounds that are bound to capture everyone’s imagination and bring back childhood memories.
The bumper results for the Santa Trains follow the record visitor numbers during Tornado’s stay at the East Lancashire Railway in October and during the Halloween Ghost Trains. Over 10,000 visitors flocked to the railway to see Tornado and around 1,100 visitors came to enjoy the Ghost Trains.
Customers for the Santa Trains are being advised to make sure they book early to avoid disappointment.
