Essential works due to start at Prestwich Library

While the work continues, the library and the cash office will be closed. Readers will still be able to borrow and return books as there will be a limited book lending service available 9am to 1pm, Mondays to Fridays, in the foyer of the Longfield Suite. Public access computers and other services will not be available during the closure.

The works include replacing the damaged and uneven flooring on the ground floor, essential electrical works in order to accommodate the new public self-service (RFID) equipment, as well as the relocation of the public access computers from the first floor to the ground floor.

Borrowed items can be returned at any of Bury’s 16 other libraries, and fines will not be charged on items due back at Prestwich Library during this period.

For those attending a booked adult learning class/session at Prestwich Library, access to the building will be via the disabled access door off the ramp at the front of the building.

As the cash office will also be closed, payments can be made at Bury Town Hall (Monday to Friday, 9am-4.30pm); online, at http://www.bury.gov.uk/; via a 24-hour automated telephone line (0845 3052197); at any Post Office or Paypoint outlet using a bar coded bill or rent payment card; or you can make non-cash payments at most other libraries.

The council apologises for any inconvenience this temporary closure may cause, and advises that the nearest library is Whitefield Library and Adult Learning Centre in Pinfold Lane, Whitefield (0161 253 7510).

Libraries which are also open on Sundays are:

  • Castle Leisure Library, Bolton Street, Bury (11am-3pm)
  • Moorside Community Centre and Library, John’s Church Hall, Parkinson Street, Bury (10am-1pm)
  • Sedgley Park Community Library, St Gabriel’s Community Rooms, Bishops Road, Prestwich (12-1.30pm).
