In 1994 I was fortunate enough to run the London Marathon. An old work colleague suggested that as I was only doing the run for myself, I should do it to raise money for Bury Hospice who had recently looked after his father in his final days. In doing so we managed to raise over £800.
Back then I new very little about Bury Hospice or what they actually did. After contacting the hospice I met two very inspirational and humble men both called Les who provided me with my training and competition vests. I met the hospice stalwart, Les from time to time and he remained as I first met him, humble, unassuming, good natured and charismatic.
Over the years I have maintained my links with The Hospice and have done all we can to make contributions even a healthy donation after a Karaoke at an otherwise dignified Hospice Black Tie Ball.
Recently I have learnt first-hand, through close experience of family and colleagues, what an incredible job they do, and it inspired me to up my game and once again raise funds for this incredible organisation.
So, to do this we are doing a bike ride traveling through the areas we cover a business. Starting in Ramsbottom, travelling through Bury heading to Prestwich, on to Radcliffe and back to Rams bottom.
I am aiming to raise £1000 which will be divided between Bury and Rossendale Hospice.
