Bury College officially opened the Enterprise Centre on Friday 14th November 2014.  The building, which formerly housed the Bury Times, was given a £4.3 million make-over including a four storey extension and contains state-of-the-art facilities that will enhance the quality of the teaching and learning experience.

The purpose-built improvements that include a lecture room, conference facilities, a social learning area with free Wi-Fi and computers and seminar and meeting rooms have been created to specifically cater for adult learners including those studying at Bury College University Centre and the training arm of the college’s award winning Business Solutions Bury College.  The grand opening was attended by the University of Salford and the University of Bolton who work in partnership with the college to deliver an ever expanding, high quality range of university provision.  In addition a selection of companies who work with Business Solutions Bury College were offered the opportunity to attend the exclusive event.

The Deputy Mayor, Councillor Sharon Briggs JP, had the honour of officially opening the centre.  She added, “This is an exciting development by Bury College which will benefit Bury as a Town and create future educational opportunities for its residents and local businesses.  Well done to all who have played a part in the delivery of this first class facility.”

The launch of the new centre saw a series of events that included the final of the Bury College University Challenge.  Students who had battled through a round of heats put their wits to the test for the chance to win the competition.  Celebrating the triumph of the Events Management Degree team’s win, student Emma Howells said, “It’s a great feeling to win, we feel proud to have won and it was good working together in a team.”

Tim Robson, Bury College Director of Strategic Partnerships and Higher Education, added, “This building represents a key marker in Bury College’s commitment to expanding its higher education and employer focused activity.  The development allows students to progress through to degree qualifications and means our work with employers can expand to adapt to the changing needs of businesses.
