Home owners and businesses can apply for grants of up to £5,000 to protect their premises against future flooding.
This is a separate scheme from the £500 flat payments that Bury Council is giving to flooded householders to replace items damaged by the Boxing Day floods.
The council has already written to all those who claimed the £500 with details of this scheme, but it is possible that some people who have not yet claimed anything will be entitled to apply.
Grants are available to those who were affected by floods on 26 December as a result of Storm Eva. The money is only to fund measures which improve the property’s resilience or resistance to flooding, over and above repairs that would normally be covered by insurance. The work may vary from house to house, but might include a flood barrier or measures to reduce the impact of floodwater which enters the property such as replacing carpets with waterproof tiling and moving electricity sockets away from the floor.
Home owners and businesses who think they might be eligible should go to the council’s webpage for more details of the scheme, at http://www.bury.gov.uk/index.aspx?articleid=11968
