Council venues across Bury now have 22 electronic self-service kiosks to provide information about services and community advice.

The kiosks are in all children’s centres, at the Tourist Information Centre in Bury, in Bury Adult Learning Centre and at the new one-stop-shop for Adult Care Services – Connect and Direct - at Textile Hall on Manchester Road in Bury.

The final installation marks the end of an 18-month project to provide information for residents more efficiently and when and where they need it.

The kiosks, installed by Region Services Limited, use touch screens and a printer so that customers can take away hard copies of the information they need. The kiosks are connected so that information from different services can be shared, meaning residents can get information on a wide range of topics at the touch of a button. The system allows the council and RSL to monitor the kiosks to make sure that they working and to fix any problems straight away.

A small celebration at Redvales Children’s Centre is planned for Wednesday January 19 from 1pm to 3pm, where representatives from RSL and the council will talk to centre visitors about the benefits of the system.

Councillor Robert Caserta, cabinet member for children and young people, said: “These kiosks are great as they provide local members of the community with instant access to the information they need, plus it is a cost effective way of giving residents the information they need at the right time.”

RSL's regional manager Simon Fairbank said: “We're delighted to have worked with Bury Council on this exciting project. The council managers have taken a joined-up approach, sharing information about different services across the kiosks. This provides an excellent service for local people while also being highly cost effective.”
