Moorside Community Centre and Library is looking forward to its latest visitors – a brood of baby chicks.
The eggs are currently in a special heated incubator and will hopefully hatch just before Easter.
This is the second batch of chicks to be hatched from eggs provided by community development officer Claire Bebbington from her own farm.
This project is an extension to the successful “How to keep chickens at home” courses that Claire, along with community development co-worker Dawn Broadhurst, has organised.
Dawn said: “The courses have always been popular and we thought it would be a wonderful experience for the children to see how chickens are born. With the first batch last year the chicks were extremely popular with the local children and, as part of the Easter celebrations, we are planning lots of free activities and events for children where they will also have an opportunity to see the young chicks before they return to the farm.”
