Runners are getting ready to pull on their trainers for the Asda Foundation Bury 10K as the popular charity road run returns on Sunday 16 September.
A host of good causes are expected to be handed a major cash boost when the Asda Foundation Bury 10K makes a return for 2018.
Many of the runners will hope to raise much-needed funds for a charity close to their hearts or support one of the event’s official partner charities, which in 2018 are the Jane Tomlinson Appeal, Bury Hospice, Early Break and Women’s Housing Action Group (WHAG) – who provide vital help to people experiencing domestic abuse.
Starting close to The Rock retail and leisure venue at 9.30am, the 10K runners will follow a route that will see them pass Bury Parish Church, the Fusilier Museum, Bury Art Museum, along Manchester Road, Dumers Lane, Bury Road, Radcliffe Road and back towards The Rock.
At 11.45am, the 10k will be closely followed by the much shorter Arena Group Family Fun Run offering the chance for families to get together and complete the 1.4k route. Entry in the family fun run is free for youngsters aged 3-14 and £5 for anyone 15 or over.
Families taking part in the Arena Group Bury Family Fun Run are encouraged to raise a small amount of funds for a charity of their choice. However, they are particularly encouraged to support the fun run’s official partner charity, Forget me not children’s hospice, who provide support for families with children who have life-shortening conditions.
The Asda Foundation Bury 10k and the Arena Group Bury Family Fun Run are delivered by Run For All in partnership with I Will if You Will and Bury Council.
Councillor Rishi Shori, leader of Bury Council, said: “The Bury 10K has become a tremendously popular event which does wonders for a number of local causes that benefit our community. It’s also a brilliant memorable experience that helps bind our communities together.
“We’re expecting this year’s event to be equally as heart-warming and bigger and better than ever.
“If you’ve not entered yet, there’s still time to do so, but even if you’re not taking part, you can join in and help create a fantastic atmosphere by coming along to cheer on all the participants.”
The charity road run forms part of the popular Asda Foundation 10K Series that includes runs in Lincoln, Nottingham, Burnley, Hull, Leeds, York, Leicester, King’s Lynn and Sheffield.
Mandy Hepworth, Asda Foundation co-ordinator, said: “Last year’s Asda Foundation Bury 10K proved very popular and it’s fantastic that it’s back for 2018. Good luck to everyone involved, particularly those runners taking on the challenge to raise funds for a cause close to their heart.”
Tristan Batley-Kyle, head of events at Run For All, said: “We’re enormously pleased to be again working in partnership with I Will If You Will and Bury Council in organising the Bury 10K. There was an incredible atmosphere around last year’s event and we look forward to experiencing that once again.”
On Sunday 16 September some roads and junctions will be closed, or have restricted access, to ensure the safe holding of the Bury 10k and family fun run. Some parking restrictions will also be in place. For full details visit https://www.runforall.com/events/10k/bury-10k/road-closure-information/
