Councillor Michelle Wiseman, the Mayor of Bury, took part in the recent Tour de Bury, organised by members of Bury Clarion Cycling Club.
The race lasted 24 miles and took in all six townships that make up the borough. It included the Harry Hill Cycle Way, named after a local cyclist who won an Olympic medal in the 1936 games, who campaigned for a cycle way to be built to avoid the heavy lorries that visit warehouses in Pilsworth.
Cllr Wiseman said: “The race was part of the I Will If You Will initiative, which aims to get women and girls more active – so I felt duty bound to lead the way, along with the mayoress, my daughter Danielle.
“I’m not sure we set the best example, because we only managed to cycle the first couple of miles or so, but it was great fun.
“I’d like to thank the race organisers and also Mark Noy of Leisure Lakes Bikes, based above Iceland in Bury, who loaned us the bikes and helmets and gave out goody bags to the participants.”
