New Bury Hospice wins Building Excellence award
Bury’s new multi-million pound hospice has won a regional award as the best community building in the North West.
It won the Building Excellence category in the Local Authority Building Control (LABC) awards after being nominated by officers at Bury Council.
The hospice was presented with the award last Friday (26 April) at a ceremony held at the Reebok Stadium, and will now go forward to the national finals held in London in November.
Jacqui Comber, Bury Hospice chief executive, said: “I am delighted to see that all our hard work and creativity have received this recognition and we look forward to attending the national awards in London.”
LABC represents building control departments in councils across England and Wales, with more than 3,000 professional surveyors and support technicians among its members.
It promotes the design and construction of buildings that are safe, accessible and environmentally efficient to comply with the Building Regulations. It works with trade organisations, manufacturers, distributors, research establishments, test houses and professional institutions to support innovation in building.
Rob Thorpe, head of building control at Bury Council, said: “This quality project is a worthy winner of the best community building in the North West region. It is a fitting tribute to all of the development team. I wish Jacqui and her team all the very best in the national finals.”
