Local Environmental Charity Groundwork is appealing for donations of wool in order to knit a Christmas tree which will be hosted in the Millgate Shopping Centre this year.

The natty knitters from the Streets of Community Spirit (SOCS) project need mostly green, but also red, yellow, white and black for wool for the decorations. The lottery-funded project works with residents in 8 streets across Bury including; Fir Street in Ramsbottom, Cuckoo Lane in Prestwich, Hornby Street and Canterbury Drive in Bury, Bright Street and Rupert Street in Radcliffe, Dudley Avenue in Whitefield and Kersal Road in Rainsough.

Deborah Gregory, Senior Project Officer from Groundwork who is heading up the project said; 'The green Christmas Tree is a great way of getting people involved and of producing something of value which is will hopefully be around for years to come. We're starting early because it's going to take a lot of people and a lot of wool to make something really spectacular.'

Donations can be handed in at the Millgate shopping centre information desk or to the offices of Groundwork, 48 Blackburn Street, Radcliffe.
