Whilst Armistice Day falls on the 11th November, Sunday the 12th is when most people will gather to pay their respects, remember and honour those that were fallen in four years of fighting in the First World War.
Armistice Day, which is held on November 11th each year, commemorates the signing of the armistice between the Allies and Germany at 11am on 11 November 1918. This being the eleventh hour of the eleventh day of the eleventh month.
There will be a number of Remembrance Parades in and around town this year at churches close to you, and with the main Remembrance Parade taking place in Bury town centre at Bury Parish Church. Marching bands, dignitaries, members of the forces and of course veterans will all be in attendance to show their respects by laying wreaths at the cenotaph before attending a service at the church honouring the fallen.
Anyone can attend the event, the crowds are often numbers deep and it's wonderful to see so many people out to support the cause.
Check your local church for services in your local area.
