More than 1,000 runners are getting ready to pull on their trainers and hit the streets for the first Bury 10K and Bury Family Fun Run on Sunday 18 September.
Starting and finishing close to The Rock retail and leisure venue, the inaugural event is expected to bring a major cash boost for local charities.
The race organisers, Run For All, are now advising runners, spectators, residents and visitors that a number of the town’s roads will be closed or have access restricted to ensure the safety of all those taking part. A number of parking suspensions will also be in operation.
The run gets under way at 9.30am and the majority of the closures start at 8.30am. Routes will open on a rolling timetable as soon as it is safe to do so.
Among the roads affected are Angouleme Way, Bolton Street, Bury Street, Cross Lane, Dumers Lane, Haymarket Street, Manchester Road, Radcliffe Road, Redvales Road, Silver Street, Spring Lane, Tarn Drive and Whitefield Road.

Lynne Preston, Run For All events manager, said: “We work very hard to minimise any disruption and all roads are re-opened as soon as possible. Unfortunately a certain amount of disruption is inevitable but we’d like to apologise in advance for any inconvenience caused.”
The new Asda Foundation Bury 10K is being organised by Jane Tomlinson’s Run For All, a not-for-profit company, in partnership with I Will If You Will (IWIYW), a fitness movement in Bury that’s helping women, girls and their families to be more active, more often. IWIYW is delivered by Bury Council with National Lottery funding from Sport England.
