Runners are set to hit the streets of Bury on Sunday 17 September for one of the region’s biggest charity road races.
Starting and finishing close to The Rock retail and leisure venue, the Asda Foundation Bury 10K is back after last year’s highly successful inaugural event.
The organisers, Run For All, are now advising runners, spectators, residents and visitors that a number of the borough’s roads will be closed or have access restricted to ensure the safety of all those taking part. A number of parking suspensions will also be in operation.
The run gets under way at 9.30am and the bulk of the closures start at 8.30am, with parking suspensions mostly starting at 7am. Routes will open on a rolling timetable as soon as it is safe to do so.
Among the roads affected are Angouleme Way, Bolton Street, Bury Street, Cross Lane, Dumers Lane, Haymarket Street, Manchester Road, Radcliffe Road, Redvales Road, Silver Street, Spring Lane, Tarn Drive and Whitefield Road.

Lynne Preston, Run For All events manager, said: “We were thrilled with last year’s Bury 10K as indeed were the many charities which benefitted from the runners’ incredible efforts.
“Of course, a certain amount of disruption is inevitable with such a large-scale event and we apologise for any inconvenience that may be caused. We will be working very hard to re-open the roads as soon as possible.”
The Asda Foundation Bury 10K is being organised by Jane Tomlinson’s Run For All, a not-for-profit company, in partnership with I Will If You Will (IWIYW), a fitness movement in Bury that’s helping women, girls and their families to be more active, more often. IWIYW is delivered by Bury Council with National Lottery funding form Sport England.
Entries are still open online. Go to http://www.runforall.com/10k/bury/ to find out more and sign up.

Note to editors:
Run For All is part of Jane Tomlinson’s lasting legacy. Jane Tomlinson CBE raised £1.85m for children’s and cancer charities before her untimely death from cancer aged just 43 in 2007. She made headlines across the world by competing in a series of epic endurance challenges from the London Marathon, ironman and triathlon competitions, to a 4,200 mile cycle ride across the width of the USA – despite being diagnosed with incurable cancer. Her family continue to raise funds in her name, and the Jane Tomlinson Appeal has to date raised almost £8m. Run For All also organises the Yorkshire Marathon series, which features half marathons in Leeds and Sheffield and the Yorkshire Marathon and Yorkshire 10 Mile in York.
