With the increasing competition and added buying power that supermarkets have these days it is all too easy to lose touch with those local traders that are on our doorsteps. These local people have done, and we hope will continue to supply quality produce as it always was.  Cheaper produce is a convenience in our supermarkets however are you really getting the high quality?  My answer is a most definitive NO.

Yes convenience is a good thing, I agree - however why compromise quality for a few extra pence and one to one service and knowledge - there is simply no comparison whatsoever.

As such I wanted to highlight one fantastic local business who is tucked away down a little lane in the village of Greenmount - Holly Mount Farm Shop.

Holly Mount Farm Shop is a family run business who supply some of the finest quality and standards of meat that you will find in the area.  Owned by James and Sarah Launders all meats are home produced and reared to a very high standard on local pastures in Greenmount.  James knows the history of all of his produce and so is in an excellent place to recommend and explain everything that you need to know from which is the best joint of meat to where it actually came from.

Here you will find everything that you need for the summer barbeque from an excellent range of home made sausages and burgers, kebabs and tender steaks.  You'll also find home produced pork, beef, lamb and cooked meats, dry cured bacons and gammon.  The shop also sells fresh eggs, local cheeses and speciality chutneys and sauces.

It's not just a case of having to pop by every single week either - call and buy in bulk and separate and freeze.  It's convenient and easy but it's also far better value long term as I actually think you get better value for money, less wasteage and far, far tastier meat.  How many times have you looked at what goes into what you buy at the supermarket?  How often have you looked at the cuts of meat that are used in the mince that you buy for example?  I think you would be surprised.......................
