The next chapter at The Green, the community centre and cafe in Clarence Park, has now begun.
A launch event is being held on Sunday 14 February (11am to 3pm) when visitors can find a huge range of information and tips on ways of improving health, wealth and happiness.
A number of events is taking place in the run-up to the big day including physical, cognitive and community sessions for service users, and these are also open to members of the public.
The Green is a flagship centre for social care and for being a hub for the wider community.
These new developments are being led by the council’s new trading company for social care, Persona, under which the centre will take on new roles as a teaching kitchen for people with disabilities and an activity venue.
The teaching kitchen will provide people who have a learning and/or physical disability the opportunity to gain work experience in food preparation and customer service, complemented by support and training.
The centre will be opened up to Persona customers across the whole organisation to take part in a range of activities from tea dances to wheels for all, bingo and musical memories.
Members of the public will be able to book to take part in some of the activity sessions and, for the first time, the cafe at The Green will be open at weekends (9am to 1pm). This has been made possible by working with local ‘not for profit’ organisation Supportive Stem, whose staff and volunteers will run the cafe and organised activities at The Green including debt and welfare drop-in facilities.
if you are interested in volunteering, or would like to know more about using this beautiful venue, please contact Michelle at Supportive Stem on 0161 447 8836 or complete a contact form on the websitewww.supportivestem.co.uk
