Work has started this week to improve Tottington Road, with repairs on Parkhills Road due to begin next week.
These are the third and fourth streets to be upgraded under the £10 million programme of major road improvements in the borough announced earlier this year.
Details of the works are as follows:
Tottington Road
The work will last three weeks and will involve resurfacing the carriageway and carrying out footway and drainage repairs between Walshaw Road and Fenton Street.
Preliminary drainage and footway works will be carried out Monday to Friday using temporary traffic signals outside peak periods (9.30am to 3pm). However, it will be necessary when undertaking the carriageway surfacing – which will be done at weekends - to extend the working period from 7am to 8pm.
Some sections of the road will need to be closed to traffic during the resurfacing works, and local residents are advised to make alternative parking arrangements during the day. The council will try to maintain limited access to all residential and business properties, and pedestrian access will be maintained at all times.
A signed diversion route will be in place during the closure, via Walshaw Road and Fenton Street.
When undertaking a scheme of this nature, some disruption is unavoidable; nevertheless the council will try to keep this to a minimum.
Parkhills Road
Work starts next Monday (16 April) to resurface the carriageway and carry out footway and drainage repairs between Manchester Road and Market Street, and will last six weeks.
Again, preliminary drainage and footway works will be carried out Monday to Friday using temporary traffic signals from 9.30am to 3pm. Resurfacing work will take place at weekends under a road closure from 7am to 8pm, with limited access to residents and businesses along Parkhills Road. Diversions will be Manchester Road, Parkhills Road and Market Street.
The first two roads to be improved under the £10 million programme were Longsight Road and Peel Brow in Ramsbottom. The fifth will be Manchester Road, in May.
