This week we spoke to Sheila, stewardess at Walmersley Golf Club. Sheila is a busy lady looking after the function suites, bar and catering at the club. Here she tells us more about what life is like at this lovely venue.

HOW LONG HAVE YOU BEEN STEWARDESS?
I've been here, along with my husband Geoff since the beginning of February 2017.

WHAT DID YOU DO BEFORE COMING HERE?
Prior to taking on the role of stewards here at Walmersley Golf Club Geoff and I were leasees of The Hamers Arms in Summerseat for 12 1/2 years.

WHAT CHANGES HAVE YOU MADE SINCE ARRIVING?
Since arriving at the golf club I've made quite a few. We wanted the club to be a little more flexible in it's catering offering and as such the first things was to extend the kitchen opening hours.  The menu has changed to offer a wider variety of meals and snacks which include breakfast as well as lunch, and dinner too. We're just coming to the end of the season for this but we also introduced "9 and dine", a 9 hole comp
which includes 9 holes of golf and dinner. Perfect for those finishing work early on a Friday, it's proved really popular. We'll be introducing this again in Spring.

WHAT'S A TYPICAL DAY?
There's lot's to do every day, from prepping the bar and kitchen, to ordering produce, organising staff and of course planning  events for our function rooms. Then once prepped, it's down to service, cooking and looking after our guests.
It's a happy and fulfilling being here and no two days are ever the same.

WHAT DO YOU WANT TO BE WHEN YOU GROW UP?
A lady of leisure!!!  (good answer)

IF YOU WERE STRANDED ON A DESERT ISLAND AND COULD HAVE JUST ONE PERSON AS COMPANY WHO WOULD IT BE?
Definitely my husband! (awh)

DO YOU HAVE PLANS FOR THE NEXT 12 MONTHS?
Hopefully a refurb of the bar and a further increase in trade through the bar, food and functions. (We look forward to it)

So there you go, a nice little insight into the world of Walmersley Golf Club and what it has to offer.  The club welcomes non members to pop in for a coffee and a bite to eat and welcomes ramblers too.  On a sunny day it's got one of the best views you'll find and you're always guaranteed a warm welcome.
