'Tis the season to recycle!

Families are being reminded that Christmas is a great time of the year at which to recycle.

Christmas cards and paper wrapping can all go in the green bin, as can cardboard gift tags and boxes.

Empty drinks bottles and cans, meanwhile, should be placed in the blue bin.

All food waste – raw, cooked, from turkey bones to tea bags and leftovers - goes in the brown bin. You can also recycle your real Christmas tree and its wooden base in your brown bin if you chop it up and it fits inside with the lid fully closed. Real Christmas trees can also be recycled at any household waste recycling centre in Greater Manchester.

Did you know:

  • If we all recycled one more glass bottle, we would recycle an extra 27 tonnes and save £10,000
  • If we all recycled the waste from our Christmas dinners, we would recycle an extra 300 tonnes and save £87,000
  • If we all recycled one Christmas catalogue, we would recycle an extra 35 tonnes and save £13,000.

We provide recycling bins and kitchen caddies free of charge: visit www.bury.gov.uk/requestabin
