Equally good and bad points. Would recommend but with a couple of warnings!

Good points: Big rooms with high standards of design, comfort and cleanliness, great swimming pool with sauna and steam room (quite fancy changing rooms too!), nice food in the restaurant, pleasant and helpful staff, lots of choice at breakfast.

Bad points: We were kept awake by heavy footsteps and banging throughout the night on our first night but once we moved to a room on the top floor it was silent. Lastly - DON'T GO NEAR THE FOOD IN THE VICTORY PUB! I didn't realise you could get pizza so wrong and terrible chicken wings. Pay slightly more for the food in the Verve Grill, much nicer.

We went to a Dirty Dancing evening meal and show, the meal was a good standard and the service excellent. The only complaint is that the bar prices are savage almost double pub prices.

My wife and I stayed here over the weekend and we were well looked after by the staff.
The room was large and spacious and very modern, glad to see UK hotels have caught up with the flat screen TV revolution!!
The bathroom was spotless and had the fluffiest towels we have ever come across.
Breakfast was self service and the food was excellent.
All in all excellent value for the price we paid.

We booked this hotel because of a groupon promotion and were seriously glad we didn’t pay full price - what we paid was about the rate of a decent Travelodge and we much prefer staying in those.

At check-in we were asked if we wanted to upgrade our room for a £10 fee. We asked what was better about the superior room. They looked a bit embarrassed and said we’d get free water. We declined this tempting offer.

However when we got to the room the window wouldn’t close, leaving us in sub zero temperatures and in a dubious state of security. Despite this, the cold air blowing in didn’t quite cover the generally damp smell in the atmosphere.

We were upgraded to the superior room, although we had forgo the free water. This was fine, as the room did come with free water-dispensing taps.

The hotel is a huge maze of rooms and it must be quite hard to keep on top of the maintenance of it; the carpets were a bit grubby, some of the fixtures were hanging off the walls and there was an odd looking smear (probably toothpaste) on the bathroom wall. (Hopefully toothpaste.)

The bed looked an impressive size until we realised it was two singles pushed together, with quite a large chunk of wood running through the middle of it. Some people may swear that sleeping on a hard surface is good for the back, but I personally prefer my beds squishy as there is much greater potential for comfortable snuggling.

If you don’t particularly like the person with whom you are sharing a bed, then the this hotel may well be for you.

We made the grave mistake of booking the restaurant thinking that 2 meals for £29 wasn’t such a bad deal. The food ranged from below par to inedible. Our second grave error was to order the house wine, and not mention anything about the bits of cork floating in it. It bumped up our bill by £17, leaving us without enough cash to tip the friendly and attentive waiting staff. On reflection we thought perhaps they ensure the staff are so startlingly lovely so that you won’t complain about what they are serving you. (FYI we scraped some cash together later and gave it to them at the distinctly average breakfast.)

One the whole I wouldn’t go back by choice, however, I’d visit the staff team if they decided to up sticks and migrate to a different hotel as this one does them no justice.

We have stayed at this hotel on around five occasions over the years and, to be honest, I don't know why we keep coming back. I complained about the cleanliness of the room in August 2009 and received a letter from the management saying it was an "isolated housekeeping problem" and that they were very sorry and it would be rectified. We stayed here again last weekend and decided to upgrade to a superior room as a) a treat and b) to see if these rooms were any cleaner than the rest. On arrival we were disgusted to find HUGE toenail clippings still on the carpet, dirty towels in the bathroom and hair on the bathroom floor. The carpet was really grubby and dusty in the corners and at the edges. As far as I could see, all my extra cash went to pay for two bottles of water.....we complained to reception who sent up a very nice housekeeping lady who rectified the toenail clipping and dirty towel problems but that was it. We went down to the restaurant for something to eat and waited approximately 40 minutes for our meal (2 steaks-not exactly haute cuisine which required lots of prep time...).
When we checked out we mentioned the cleanliness problem to the manager. She said the cleaning services had been contracted out and they were trying to get rid of the company so noted our concerns but offered nothing in the way of compensation. She said she would deal with our complaint and get back to us but I'm still waiting to hear from her. I intend to write to the head office (again) and see what they can come up with by way of explanation and any kind of incentive for us to stay there again and compensate us for our disappointment at Village Hotels failing to come up to basic hygiene standards again. I await their response with interest.

Stayed here on business do two days. Easily found, just off the motorway. Nice big room. Ate in the restaurant on 1st night, good selection and presented well. Had pasta for mains and it wasn't overly stodgy with sauce. No complaints really, but at £86 per night it was in the expensive side. Better value with similar standard to be found. Can't fault the hotel but there is better value to be had

We have just enjoyed a 2 night break at the Village in Bury, we chose this hotel as it is a great base for visiting our friends & family in the area.

We had requested a quiet room and got just that, the hotel was full all weekend with party goers and we were not disturbed once, I would reccomend asking for a Superior Double room, it is £10 extra but worth the money as these rooms are so quiet -

We ate in the Victory pub and again although there was a private christmas party going on in there we were served promptly and the food was great.

All the staff we came into contact with were friendly and courteous and the hotel in general had a great buzz about it. On this occasion we didn't use the leisure club but will be arriving early so we can use it next time.

All in all a great weekend

Stayed one night in the Hotel .Really easy to find just off the motorway.Reception staff verry helpful and great breakfast. Rooms are very well decorated clean and spacious. Large gym with plenty of equipment and excellent pool area. Was really impressed with the pool area it was very clean and well kept. There are also toning beds to use. There is a pub on the same sight almost next door which did a fabulous carvery for just over £6. We had a really good time and would stay again and recommend for a weekend break .

After reading some of the reviews on here i was Worried that i may have paid for a room in a hotel i wouldn't have wanted to step foot in but it turns out the hotel was very pleasant and i think some of the bad reviews have been writen a bit dramatically. I stayed over for the night last week and fell in love with everyone, the receptionists were kind and had a smile on there face even when it was busy, the victory pub was good with something on every night and karaoke on thursday if you fancy it. Starbucks were very friendly with a smile on there face at all times and the Verve grill was fantastic, after waiting to be seated for 5mins i was welcomed into the restaurant by a tall blonde guy (i cant remember his name) with open arms, he sat me down on a table near the windows so it was a bit chilly and he talked me through their specials, after ordering my drink it was with me within 3minutes and left on the table by a very young lad who said the words " enjoy your evening" with a smile to every table. After waiting a while my order was taken by a lovely girl called Nic, she was very friendly and dealt with my fries complaint very well, and then came along my food , a well done fillet steak with onion rings and bernaise sauce. No complaints about the food what so ever! The only downfall i see on the restaurant is its a bit overpriced and the drinks are a different price to the rest Of the hotel. COntinue on with the room it was very comfortable and spacious , the batroom was a bit dirty but nothing a little age wouldnt have done. I didn't get to use the gym as i was on a business trip but i will use it the next time i stay. And last but not least the residents bar ( same bar as the restaurant) i was very dissapointed with the resident bar because of the payment method, everything must be charged to your room!! But still, even though i got a drink at 12am the lad behind the bar ( mentioned earlier in the restaurant) still had a smile on his face! so now to end this review i think the only word i could use to describe the hotel is FANTASTIC! The manager of this hotel should be proud! All the best Alan Cooper
