We have now stayed twice at this hotel, using the special deals of £20 per night which makes it good value. The last time we stayed in one of the refurbished rooms, which were nice and clean but lacked some obvious things, including good design.

It seems they have changed their booking system and tried to go all funky with their website - and room design, but both miss the mark and have clearly not been consumer tested. A bit like their touch screen check in system which is awful.

So to be specific. If you are introducing a self-service check in system that needs a reservation number and name to be entered 1) tell people before they arrive 2) have an App where you can do it all before you arrive and simply scan a barcode when you arrive, rather than having to type everything at reception. 3)Have a system that works with multiple rooms on the same reservation. 4)If the receptionist is sat doing nothing when you arrive, get them, to check you in rather than be pointed to a dumb terminal (that's the Hospitality bit).

If rooms are supposed to be ready at 3pm, they should certainly be ready at 4pm. Ours wasn't so a wait in Starbucks for 20 mins. OK free coffee but what we wanted were rooms.

Also on the website if you are going to pry more money from us by offering deals on breakfast and an evening meal, show the menu for the evening meal and when we do book breakfast don't tell me at breakfast that I haven't paid - that's also the Hospitality bit.

We didn't eat at the hotel or bar because the menu wasn't exciting as it typical DeVere fare. We ate out and returned at 9:20pm for a drink in the bar. We were told the coffee machine had been cleaned and therefore coffee was no longer available - but they could do Instant. We asked to speak to the manager and they then suggested the restaurant machine may still be on and someone grudgingly offered to get a coffee from there - which tasted awful and was like mud. Hospitality again.

Now it seems that Children in DeVere eyes are over 18 when it comes to using the pool, but about 12 when it comes to paying for food and rooms in the hotel. I have never understood how one can get married at 16 but not use a DeVere pool after 6pm until you get to vote. In my eyes it is because they value leisure club members more than hotel guests.

Rooms are quite nice but a bit sparse with the new design - half a dozen coat hangers and a small set of drawers is all the storage. No Safes in the room or mini-bar. Thin walls so don't make a lot of noise. Double bed is quite small by hotel standards. No information about the hotel facilities in the room, or on the TV where I thought there might be an info channel. There is no towel rail in the bathroom, no shelf in the shower to place shampoo, etc. and no ability to dry anything when you've been in the pool. There is no sealing at the back of the washbasin so will be a haven for dirt and water which will soon swell the worktops.
Being "green" (a euphemism for saving money) they now have shower and shampoo bottles in large sizes that you share with others who have used the room, so goodness knows what is or could be in them.

Water in the whole hotel went off at 11pm but the night staff managed to get it back after about 45 minutes.

Breakfast was basic but OK apart from the challenge on pre-payment, but check out was a challenge as they said all done and when I asked for a printed bill they said it would be mailed to me. Given the fact that they had billed me again for breakfast and then removed it I didn't trust this and would much prefer a printed bill.

Perhaps it was a lazy receptionist or maybe it is their new style of DIY hospitality. If you like everything impersonal then fine, but I prefer to be welcomed by a human.

No doubt based on previous reviews we will get some bland 'Thank You' from the Manager, but to be fair some of this is probably out of his hands and needs to be taken up at DeVere Management level. There is nothing that can't be fixed with a bit of customer engagement and a review of their Hospitality strategy. Are they a DIY and Pay-for-it-all chain or something better than that, Let's see.

Stayed in a really stylish twin room with a friend for a wedding (which was also held at the hotel). Brilliant shower, plenty of space in the room too! Only downside is without the window wide open the room gets really stuffy, really quickly, even with the provided fan running at full power. Could do with an actual air con unit but I guess that's not plausible for such a large hotel.
Otherwise brilliant venue, nice to have a Starbucks downstairs, and also really easy to find (we travelled over 150 miles!).

Reasonably good value for money, nice hotel with lots to offer - pub that serves meals, spa facilities and an onsite Starbucks. Clean and tidy everywhere, good food. Friendly, helpful staff. Would return

Used the hotel as we were visiting friends in Bury - good location and easy to find. The room was large and comfortable, staff helpful and friendly and the bar/restaurant very good. We probably would not have chosen to stay there on a weekend if we weren't visiting friends as full of hen parties and tribute night guests.

Went up for a long weekend to celebrate a friends wedding. Absolutely fantastic prices, warm & friendly staff. And OMG the shower was amazing and I would go back just for that.
Would 100% recommended to anyone even if it's just a couple or friend get away.

Amazing from start to finish - customer service, room, lush bed, perfect brekkie. Everything was amazing from start to finish. Even on returning to the room at 3am the meet and greet was top notch.
They should be very proud of their staff at this hotel

A lot needs to be done to improve the front desk. Busy weekends need more staff. Attention to detail with guests bookings has to be looked into. Staff should apologise when they get it wrong
Sorry changes a lot.

Being directed to a self check-in system spoilt the experience as no instructions on how to find room location or any information about the facilities offered. However, the hotel was clean and rooms very good.
