I stayed here for a Fri-Sat on a combined business leisure trip. I generally live in hotels for about 15% of the year so am generally unimpressed by "features" but more so by simple things like cleanliness, bed comfort, shower effectiveness and some control over heating/ventilation and peace and quiet.

The Village is a hugely popular place judging by the number of people thronging the outside entrance (clouds of smoke!). The "reception" seems to be situated in the middle of the noise and bustle but at least had the benefit of a self check in system which alleviates the long irritating waits behind queues of people all wanting to quiz the reception staff about local events etc etc. create your own key card is the way forward!

One of the reasons for the bustle was the use of the Gym so be prepared to be made to look fat and unfit as a parade of gym bunnies in lycra pass by with dragged back hair and unfeasibly large bags.

There is also a very popular sports bar/restaurant and Starbucks cafe which, at 5pm on a Friday night was rammed.

The room was big, garishly adorned with hallucinogenic stripes with the usual TV, kettle etc. It wasn't exactly spotless and felt a little worn - particularly in the bathroom.

It became apparent that the hotel is a very well used venue with regular tribute nights, weddings and other celebratory functions. I take my hat off to the Hotel as they have obviously hit on a winning formula to keep their occupancy rates high and their non-room income healthy.

Of course, you can guess what the drawback of this is. The noise. My sleep was disrupted most of the night with the usual people under the influence of alcohol who can only converse by yelling - the large terrace is a magnet for them and my window opened over them. I naturally closed it but was then faced with a very warm room.

What was worse was the noise from the corridors with guests talking loudly, opening and closing doors and actually running up and down. It was like being back on your first school trip abroad. This carried on all night until eventually, the room next door decided to put the TV on a music channel at 6.00am in the morning. It seems that the soundproofing is minimal here.

I don't feel it is right to mark a hotel down for being successful and, looking through the reviews, it obviously hits the spot for people who come for the vents and celebrations. However,I wish I had known that before I booked as I would have decided to act like the old fogey I am am and gone for somewhere a little quieter.

Two more points.

1.The staff are great! Well done - it makes a huge difference.

2. The large imposing frontage has a very large stone staircase. I wonder how many people like me got their suitcases out of the car, trundled them to the stairs and then discovered no ramp and then had to heave them up (while being passed by the gym bunnies who were trotting up the stairs)? It would have been useful to see clear signage for accessible entry and warnings on the website in line with the Equality Act anticipatory duty?

Not for me but may well be for you!

Clean hotel, they have Starbucks and a bar and grill downstairs. Always seems to be busy on a Saturday night. The staff is great and friendly. They also have s indoor pool and gym, which you have access to if you get a club room.

Came here for training from work, wonderful clean place spotless toilets friendly staff and clean carpets. While there a couple of us (the nosy ones) had a good look around and I must say that pool looks absolutely fantastic and we decided to book a treat day while there we can’t wait. While there we had drinks and lunch and the food was first class and we decided to have all our training there πŸ˜‚πŸ˜‚ thank you for your superb hospitality x

Breakfast choice was average but the tea making facility was poor. We were given a luke warm flask of water to make tea. She I asked for hotter water I was given another flask which was from the same batch that had been there since before we arrived.
