I stayed 3 nights for training in job. Checking in was efficient. Room was spacious. And bathroom clean, the shower was powerful. The staff at bar was helpful and wrapped food up so could take food to room. Never got to use spa or gym but could see it from reception. Breakfast staff and food was excellent. Buffet breakfast. Only downfall was everytime came back to room, after day away, room key needed to be reset.

Steer clear of rooms above function room , unless you can sleep to the noise of Bass and Drum. I was not warned that the noise level would be so bad. Disabled parking bays were taken by Taxis and ddelivery vans . Food was not good quality .After complaining about the noise the receptionist moved me to a room at the back of the hotel ( upgrade) which I discovered when I got the bill that I had been ccharged at the higher rate. The staff are very friendly.

They didn't honour my booking through Expedia and the hotel was "full". I guess that if I had offered to pay full price, they might have magically found a room. As it was, they refunded my the cost of my booking, which confirmed my suspicion that it was their decision not to honour it, otherwise they would have insisted that I get the refund from Expedia.

I thought the Village would have offered more than basic accommodation and it did not. The rooms are dated and there are no facilities in the bedrooms i.e. a safe. The coffee machine that was in the room did not work; the rooms were freezing and the breakfast was not overly appealing. The staff were friendly and the hotel is very busy so it had a good buzzy effect.

The Village hotel is conveniently located for a number of the businesses this side of Bury. I stayed here while visiting a customer. The hotel is very close to the M66 and other transport links. It is primarily a business hotel. This is confirmed by the number of middle aged men dining alone in the evening…

The hotel has ample parking and is located on the edge of a business park. The locale is quiet and there is nothing going on here other than the hotel in the evenings etc. so you will be using the facilities in the hotel or your car if you want to go further afield.

The hotel is large, modern and clean. The check in is automated and efficient. Options exist for you to pre-check-in and use your mobile phone as a room key. I opted for the old-fashioned check-in on arrival. This was quick and hassle free.
As well as the hotel bar and the restaurant there is also a Starbucks on site. Despite this being a franchise you can charge spending in here to your room. There is also a fair amount of seating in the reception area.

The bar is a decent size, has huge TVs and a lot of background noise. Cheaper/lighter food based on pub fayre can be had here as well as drinks.
The restaurant is where breakfast and dinner are served. Breakfast is an all you can eat buffet of bacon, sausage, fried / scrambled egg, hash browns, beans, mushrooms and tomato. There is also cereal, toast, jam, yoghurt etc. I enjoyed this but I think it would be a little repetitive on a longer stay. Food for breakfast was of a good standard. Service at breakfast was good although I did have to wait to be seated one morning.

Dinner is very good. I enjoyed a good selection of well prepared and well-presented courses (savoury and sweet) during my stay. The dining room staff were friendly and professional and decently efficient. Quality of the food was good.

The additional facilities are a large gym, swimming pool, hot tub and possibly a sauna too. I did not have chance to sample any of these during my stay. They looked to be of a very high standard though and I understand that many locals are members of the gym and come to the hotel specifically to use these facilities. I did use the Spa. They do a “25 minutes for £25” deal on massage which was relaxing and good value.

The room was curious. It was right at the back of the hotel (I had asked for a quiet room) and the walls and carpets were curiously decorated in bright stripes. The bathroom is similarly decorated. This gives it a modern, fashionable feel but it a little less than “cosy”. I suspect they will need to decorate regularly to keep it in fashion too. There is a huge TV on the wall which I did not use and free Wi-Fi which I did. The bed was comfortable and there was plenty of hot water. The shower is a curious design which worked very well but the cubicle has no door (how modern!) which resulted in the floor flooding every time I used it.

They provide an iron and ironing board which worked very well. When I first came in the room I thought “by heck its cold in here, I’m going to freeze” but they don’t have central heating. Each room has its own electric radiator. Once I’d figured out how to operate that I had my room nice and toasty in no time. Simple slider under a hatch on the top.

The room was super quiet. Possibly as a function of being so far back in the hotel. I will ask for a room back there next time I stay here. Oh yeah, that’s a spoiler for my verdict isn’t it, yes – I’d come back happily.

The other thing I noted when I came in the room was a funny smell like stale tobacco. It was like getting a smoking room a decade ago. Oddly the smell was strongest in the bathroom. I closed the bathroom door and the smell stayed in the bathroom, the bedroom remained free of odour after that so long as I kept the door shut.
Check out is super-efficient. Just drop your key in a box and they email you your receipt.

I would rate this hotel as “better than good” and I will doubtless be back in the area again and I won’t hesitate to book in here.
