1. It's good for the local economy
The most obvious reason. Did you know that for every pound you spend in a local independent shop or locally owned business, up to 70p benefits your local community? Whereas if you shop at an out-of-town centre or online with one of the retail multiples, as little as 5p finds its way back.
2. It's good for your house price
High streets populated with thriving independent businesses boost the price of nearby homes, according to a recent study. The research by American Express found that house prices near a prosperous town centre have risen by an average of £40,000 more over the past decade than other properties
3. It's good for your health and the environment
When you shop at local butchers, bakers, farm shops and green grocers, it is likely that a decent percentage of the produce has had a short field-to-fork journey. Along with supporting local farmers, it means the food is likely to contain more nutrients and have less packaging.
And obviously, Buying Local means less travelling, less traffic, less pollution and even the opportunity to walk or cycle there, getting you exercise as well as saving money.
So for just those three reasons alone (and there are many more), support your local economy and community and Buy Local this Christmas!
