Supporting people living with life-limiting illnesses

Arthur Rank Hospice Charity supports people in Cambridgeshire who are living with a life-limiting illness.  Our care and services are provided free of charge to patients, to help them and their loved ones to make every moment count.

Delivering vital care to over 900 patients each year

Arthur Rank Hospice Charity is best known for delivering vital care to over 900[1] patients each year through our 12 bedded specialist palliative Inpatient Unit, day therapy and Hospice at Home Services. However the range of services the Charity provides is much broader comprising of the Specialist Palliative Care Home Team, the Hudson day treatment centre in Wisbech2, patient and family support (including counselling, bereavement and spiritual support), lymphoedema care, complementary therapy, transport services and small grants which collectively support two thousand3 further patients.

Education and Learning Department

Our Education and Learning Department, who since 2015 have also delivered training with The Gold Standards Framework, ensure that we share our specialist knowledge and expertise with other healthcare professionals, helping to increase the excellence of palliative care across the region.

Passionate

We are passionate about making best use of our three greatest assets: our volunteers, staff and our supporters.  This powerful combination enables us to deliver significantly more care than the NHS would be able to provide if working alone. The Arthur Rank Hospice has a strategic vision to ensure provision of the excellent level of care for which the Hospice is widely known, in the most effective way and through the very best patient experience.

The care that we provide is underpinned by an army of volunteers who work in and around the hospice or in a fundraising capacity.  Our volunteers provide a valuable resource in a myriad of different roles so whether it is the work they do in maintaining our beautiful courtyard gardens, making cups of tea on our tea bar or providing a transport service for our patients and their family members, their support enhances the care that we provide.

Awarded a five year grant from UnitingCare Partnership

In August 2015, we were awarded a five year grant from UnitingCare Partnership to deliver the services which the NHS funds. Annually we are required to raise £2 million to fund the additional services which have always been funded by the Charity. As an independent hospice the Charity can now make critical decisions as to where funds are best spent quickly enabling the charity to effectively react to the ever-changing needs of patients.  Via this model, there continues to be a seamless link in service provision and in the future, if wishing to provide new services, we may be able to apply to grant making trusts; which would not have be possible as an NHS hospice.

New 24-bed hospice in Shelford Bottom

In April 2015 building commenced of a new 24-bed hospice in Shelford Bottom. The new hospice will allow us to offer a more spacious, attractive and therapeutic environment, with better facilities and increased service capacity.  The project cost stands at £10.5 million and the Charity is working hard to raise the remaining funds needed. We hope to open the doors to patients in late Autumn 2016.

Duty of care

Our professional, compassionate and practical services deliver care, counselling and education, helping patients to live well and their families to live on.
